MEMBERS' SLIDE SHOW (JANUARY 2015)
Almost 50 members attended the 2015 Members’ Slide Show and Social Event at the Gallery in Farringdon. The evening’s presentations consisted of:
The Plymouth Story - a British Movietone local newsreel clip about the opening of the Drake cinema
Double Dutch - cinema (and transport) photos of last year’s spring visit to Amsterdam and around.
Pleasures of La Pagode - showed the design and architecture at La Pagode cinema, Paris.
Kinema Obscura - a member’s personal preferences from the thousands of images that she has handled in the CTA archive
Cinemas in Department Stores - a champion of the multiplex and special cinemas showed us literally “what’s in store”! (Harrods and Selfridges)
Filming Old Cinemas - an avid video-maker showed the history and technicalities of old cinemas. There was time to see: The Palace at Broadstairs, Kent; Projected Picture Trust at Bletchley Park; Brighton and ‘Duke of Yorks’ Centenary . We hope to screen more at a future show.
In Search of the Bioscope - a tour of some old cinemas filmed in the early 1980s

Seven ways to enter a cinema without paying! - A member spilled the beans about his adventures in gaining legitimate free entry into cinemas.
Home Town Tales of Rugby - retelling the development of cinemas in Rugby.
Finally members enjoyed a couple of excerpts from famous musicals from the golden era: 1943 - The Gangs All Here and 1954 - There’s No Business Like Show Business.
