"My Little Cinema" Sunday, 8th March 2015
CTA Members were privileged to be invited to a film show held in a member's private cinema, nestling in Croydon’s suburbs. This gem is possibly one of the most delightful private cinemas in the UK, designed and built about forty years ago by its owner who is, of course, a cinema enthusiast. The 35-seat auditorium is decorated in Art Deco style using furnishings recovered from Croydon’s super- cinemas when they were converted or demolished. Its projection box has authentic 16mm and 35mm projectors and Western Electric sound apparatus and a digital projector was added recently to bring it flickering into the twenty first century!
The Sunday afternoon show recreated the golden days of 'going to the pictures' during which period comedy shorts, adverts and trailers and of course a feature film were presented. The show would not have been complete without a commissionaire to greet patrons and an ice cream girl providing ice creams to the audience. An enjoyable and nostalgic treat was had by all!
